Facebook Cities Guide premieres in Brazil; how to use tips

Facebook is releasing city guides for Brazilian users, now in the stable version of the application. The feature, which began appearing in March in the United States and United Kingdom, shows tourist attractions in various cities around the world. The tool has suggestions of restaurants, bars, parks and other categories of places, allowing the user to still know places visited by friends and those frequented by residents.

In this way, the Cities Guide becomes an alternative to the features of Google Maps. The tutorial below was performed on an Android phone, but the function should also be released for iPhone (iOS). Step 1. Tap the main Facebook menu, go to the "Applications" section and click "See all".

Step 2. Search for the "City Guides" function and enter it. Note that there is no search field; the user can only search the cities with the available feature. The places are divided by mainland and there is even a "Most Popular" section at the top of the screen.

Step 3. To search the available cities, simply slide your finger from right to left in the corresponding section. When you find a desired location, touch it. Facebook will highlight the current temperature and time, as well as your friends who have visited the place.

Step 4. Going down the screen, you will see the places your friends visited. You can tap the location to open the Facebook page and, if you wish, click the reminder icon to save it. Just below, there is the "Explore" section, which organizes the city's attractions into categories. Swipe from right to left to view more categories and touch one to open it.

Step 5. In this example, we enter "Cafés" in the city of Berlin. Facebook will display a list of the cafes in the locality, with their respective location on the map. Select an establishment to open your page and see more specific information. If desired, touch the reminder icon to save the location.

Step 6. Tap anywhere on the map to expand it. Touching the dots in red, Facebook will show a small card at the bottom with the location description, your rating, and the save button. You can also zoom in on the map to see it in detail.

Step 7. Below the "Explore" menu is the section "Places frequented by local people". The attractions are divided by categories (like restaurants, cafes, art and culture etc) and listed in the infinite scrolling scheme. If you want to see more suggestions, scroll to the bottom of the list and press "See more".

Step 8. Next, the Facebook guide shows you the popular attractions of the city. As with the other tool menus, the search is done by sliding the finger from right to left. You can touch a location to open the page or save it directly to the home screen by clicking the reminder icon.

Step 9. The last menu is the "More Cities" which displays a scroll bar with the most popular cities. You can also click "See All" to return to the City Guides main screen and discover attractions from other places.

Step 10. Touching the "Saved" tab, you will see all the places you saved, with the respective locations indicated on the map. Sites will also appear on your saved items from Facebook. You can still enjoy, save and share the city on the social network.
